Questions

What  are your fees?

Fees are $100 per full 60 minute of counselling. I currently offer a limited number of sliding scale spots for clients experiencing financial hardship.

How do you accept payment?

First sessions are confirmed via e-transfer sent at least 24 hours before your session time. Subsequent sessions can be paid by cash or check although e-transfer is the preferred method.

Is Counselling Covered by my Insurance?

Some extended health care plans will reimburse you for the services of a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC). I am registered with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (#6968). If you have coverage, you will be required to pay for the counselling session and then submit your receipt to your extended healthcare plan for reimbursement. For further details please check with your medical plan provider.

What can I expect in the first session?

In the first session I will explain the confidentiality agreement and we will both sign it, a copy of which you will keep with you for your records. You will also fill out an intake form (if you prefer, this can be filled out in advance and e-mailed or brought with you). I will want to know more about the issues that bring you to counselling, your history, and your counselling goals. It is my goal that you leave your first session feeling understood by me and having some concrete tools for dealing the stress you are currently experiencing.

How can I find the right counsellor for me?

Research has demonstrated that a mayor factor in how well therapy works is how comfortable the client feels with the counsellor. While this level of compatibility builds over time, you can usually get a good sense of the ‘therapeutic fit’ from early on. It all starts with reaching out to make that first contact. Following your free e-mail or phone consultation, your initial session will help you clarify what you are looking for in a therapist and whether you feel I am a match for your needs.

How do I make an appointment?

To make a counselling appointment please call or e-mail me directly. If I am not able to respond right away feel free to leave a confidential message and I will get back to you as soon as possible, usually within the same day. All information gathered during your free 20 minute phone consultation is kept strictly confidential.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

Your appointment time is reserved specially for you, which means that others are required to wait to access counselling services. Therefore, a full 24 hours cancellation notice is required or a no-show fee equivalent to the full session amount will be charged. If you are 20 minutes late for your session time please be advised it will be considered a missed session and you will be responsible for the full fee.You can cancel your appointment by email, or by calling 604 401 5805.

What if it is an emergency and I need to speak to my counsellor outside of normal business hours?

  • Visit your local emergency department or call 911
  • Contact a crisis line open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Please leave a message and I will return your call by the next scheduled business hours
